Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.”

Every day we make decisions that influence our present and can significantly affect our future. Some seem small; others involve family, work, finances, ministry, or important projects.

Christian life teaches us that making wise decisions requires more than emotions, personal preferences, or immediate convenience. We need to acknowledge God in our ways and allow his truth to guide our choices.

John C. Maxwell states, “Life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you.” Therefore, before deciding, we must pray, examine the biblical principles related to the situation, consider the possible consequences, and, when necessary, seek counsel from mature people.

Trusting God also does not mean always waiting for an extraordinary sign; many times, his direction comes through the wisdom we already find in the Scriptures.

At home, it is important to teach children to think before acting and to assess the consequences of their decisions. Healthy choices generally reflect values that have been defined beforehand. A family that consults God develops greater discernment and avoids many impulsive decisions.

We cannot control every outcome, but we can make responsible decisions. When we acknowledge the Lord in our ways, we learn to choose what honors his name and contributes to our overall growth.

1. What criteria do I normally use when I have to make an important decision?

   I must consider biblical principles, seek God’s direction through prayer, examine my motivations, weigh the consequences, and listen to wise counsel before responsibly making any truly important decision.

2. Is there currently any decision that I need to bring before God more deeply?

   I must identify those decisions that create uncertainty, sincerely present them in prayer, seek guidance in the Scriptures, and wait patiently, avoiding impulsive action until I have sufficient clarity, wisdom, and peace.

3. How can we teach our children to assess consequences before making decisions?

   We can teach them through our example, talk about possible consequences, ask questions that develop critical thinking, establish clear biblical principles, and allow them to take on appropriate responsibilities according to their age and personal maturity.
