Unity with the Team

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” — Psalm 133:1

The administration and coordination of a Christian worship service or event should never be understood as an individual responsibility, but as the joint work of a body that serves to glorify God. Musicians, preachers, ushers, technicians, intercessors, and other servants perform different functions, but they share one purpose: to help the congregation worship, receive the Word, and experience the work of the Holy Spirit.

For this reason, team unity is a fundamental condition for developing an orderly, edifying, and spiritually healthy worship service.

Patrick Lencioni highlights the importance of trust as the foundation for the healthy functioning of teams. In Christian ministry, this trust must be complemented by clear communication, respect, humility, and a willingness to collaborate. Likewise, Dietrich Bonhoeffer taught that the Christian community is a reality created by God in Christ. This perspective reminds us that serving together is also a visible expression of our spiritual fellowship.

Unity does not mean thinking exactly alike or eliminating personal differences. It means learning to place the common purpose above preferences, self-promotion, and secondary disagreements. The program administrator and worship coordinator must actively contribute to this culture: listening, communicating, valuing each ministry, and resolving tensions promptly.

Their role is to build bridges among those who serve, seeking to ensure that everyone works harmoniously so that Christ always occupies the central place. No team member should be uncomfortable with the constant reminder of the standards and rules that govern this ministry and have been indicated by the pastor.

Do I promote unity, or do I create tension on the team? I must be an agent of peace, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Do I communicate clearly with others? Clear communication prevents mistakes and strengthens teamwork.

Do I value the contribution of each ministry? Everyone is important in the development of the worship service or event.

Lord, help me promote unity on the team. May we work together with one purpose. Make us one body in you. Amen.
