The Importance of Preparation

Preparation is an expression of spiritual responsibility. Those who coordinate or administer a worship service should not rely solely on their experience, their ability to improvise, or their knowledge of the program.

Preparing means recognizing that every service is an opportunity to minister to people who arrive with different needs, burdens, and expectations. Therefore, reviewing the program beforehand, communicating with participants, knowing the transitions, and devoting time to prayer all contribute to conducting the service with order, excellence, and spiritual sensitivity.

Preparation should not be interpreted as a lack of dependence on the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, planning and spiritual sensitivity can complement each other. Preparing establishes a responsible structure; depending on the Spirit makes it possible to discern when that structure needs to be adjusted to what God is doing.

The Pentecostal administrator and coordinator must avoid two extremes: turning the worship service into a rigid program that allows no variation, or justifying constant improvisation under the idea that everything must arise spontaneously.

Proverbs 21:5 connects the plans of the diligent with favorable results. This principle also sheds light on ministry service. Careful preparation reduces distractions, prevents confusion, and enables those who participate to know their responsibilities. When preparation, prayer, and dependence on the Holy Spirit work together, the administrator and coordinator can serve with greater confidence, serenity, and effectiveness, seeking to keep all attention centered on God.

Do I prepare adequately before every worship service? I must assume my responsibility with diligence and foresight.

Do I confuse improvisation with spirituality? True spirituality includes preparation and discipline.

Does my lack of preparation affect others? My carelessness can interrupt the congregation’s spiritual experience.
